Public Lands for Responsible Recreation

Recreation and Public Purposes Act

Department of the Interior regulations for the Recreation and Public Purposes Act are found in Title 43 of the Code of Federal Regulations (43 CFR), Parts 2740 (Sales) and 2912 (Leases). The Act authorizes the sale or lease of public lands for recreational or public purposes to State and local governments and to qualified nonprofit organizations. Examples of typical uses under the Act are historic monument sites, campgrounds, schools, fire houses, law enforcement facilities, municipal facilities, hospitals, parks, and fairgrounds.

Outdoor Recreation Projects Are My Favorite

In the consulting industry, each situation is unique and requires a specific set of solutions. Public land is the "land of many uses" and more than ever it is the "land for many users". Balancing the needs of the people for outdoor recreation with preserving and sustaining unique ecosystems is a growing concern. As old grazing allotments are retired, now is the time to reclaim and restore public lands for multiple users. I help cities and counties that border public land effectively manage the interface zone through collective planning for recreation development.
